Generic interview questions vs role-specific practice

Generic questions are useful for warm-up practice. Role-specific practice helps candidates prepare evidence for the role in front of them.

Preparation-only feedback

ACT helps candidates practice for the role they are applying for now. It is not recruitment assessment, selection prediction or a replacement for a real panel.

When generic questions help

Generic questions help candidates warm up, practice speaking out loud and become familiar with common behavioural themes.

Where generic questions fall short

They do not tell you what this role needs to hear. A generic teamwork question is less useful than asking what kind of teamwork this role actually requires.

Where role-specific practice is stronger

Role-specific practice starts with the Position Description, Job Description or job ad, then prepares examples against the requirements in front of you.
